OHSers' Plans for Halloween

October is a busy month for OHS’ers, because of midterms. However, the end of the month provides a chance for celebration and having fun: Halloween! Halloween, which originated as a pagan festival called Samhain, marks the end of summer and beginning of fall. Trick-or-treating, a Halloween staple in the US, was established throughout the 1920’s to the 1950’s by immigrants. Given the diverse body of OHS students, there is also a diverse range of plans. Through a school wide poll, OHS’ers have indicated that they don’t have anything planned for Halloween, but others have plans that range from hanging out with friends to going trick-or-treating! Globally, different countries celebrate Halloween with other holidays. For instance, you might expect to see people from Mexico celebrating Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, in early November; people from Italy celebrate a festival called Ognissanti the first day of November, and people from China celebrate the Qingming festival in April. Hopefully everyone has a fun Halloween, free from the stress of midterms!
