As a student who has been with SOHS since 7th grade, it is bittersweet to think that this next year will be my last. My experiences as a student in class, clubs, and social events–whether it be spontaneous Skype calls or the bustling breakout rooms to answer reading questions that trail off into tangential exchanges about each others’ daily routines–have been infinitely impactful. Nevertheless, I am excited to continue learning and connecting with the SOHS community and be impressed by the exceptional talents, perspectives, and experiences that we celebrate and share.
The Pixel Journal extends a sincere congratulations to the OHS Class of 2024! Our seniors have experienced countless lessons throughout high school, and are seen as role models by the OHS community. Before the Class of 2024 departs to the next chapter of their lives, the Pixel Journal collected some advice they had to share—thank you to all those who imparted their wisdom!
Although reaching out to not just instructors but also your peers may seem like a daunting prospect, especially at OHS, I hope you know that everyone is extremely welcoming and just like you, they may also be yearning for a check-in.
I hope that for us all, this new semester, and new year, represents not only a new beginning, but also an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the many things we have accomplished thus far. While things may seem uncertain now, just remember that the uncertainty in the coming months bring with it a chance for discovery.
As I’m sure many of us already know, each school year at OHS is a journey in and of itself. It’s a roller coaster ride, essentially, filled with many highs and lows. I know that many of us look forward to the months ticking by until we finally reach summer break.
Meet our new editorial board for the 2023-2024 school year!
The Pixel Journal was founded in 2016 in hopes that it would represent the diversity Stanford OHS students embody. It continues to do this through our vast selection of articles ranging from instructor & student spotlights to features on our various clubs and events.
The Pixel Journal delves into the intricate details of all things OHS, clubs, events, instructors, students, and anything and everything else. And yet, the Pixel Journal has to share its own complex process. How are there so many, enthralling and relatable yet polished articles published every month?!
Even though this time of the year can often be one of the most stressful, take a moment to appreciate just how far you’ve come. Think back to yourself last August, and how you might have been unable to imagine where this school year would take you. Now, look at where you’ve ended up! Congratulations are in order and we are in the final stretch.
As each school year concludes, regardless of where you are in your academic and life path, the fear of the unknown always makes its appearance once again. Throughout these years, I have learned that instead of shying away from this fear, I should embrace it. Rather than force myself onto paths that are expected of me, I know that it is only by following my heart that I will be able to find my true passion. To attempt to reduce your goals and aspirations into a timeline is an extremely difficult task, and one that rarely provides any benefit beyond the mere moments of temporary satisfaction. I hope that you, too, will take this fear and welcome it as an opportunity for self-reflection and growth.
