Letter from the Editor

Dear Reader,

We are now into our first month of classes, our wonderful Student Government has been elected, and the Club Fair has come to a close: the school year is in full swing, and stress may be settling in.

Last week during homerooms, students learned about National Suicide Prevention Week (September 8th to 14th). This is an annual campaign to inform people about the warning signs of suicide and to be cognizant of others’ struggles with mental health—but of course, we should all strive to be aware of mental health concerns all year round. High school is a stressful time, and many situations will throw us into self-doubt. Though your to-do lists may be starting to fill up with assignments and projects, I hope you’ll spend some time each day talking to your friends (and making new ones!) to stay connected with the OHS community. I’ve found that OHSers are extraordinarily understanding if you ever need someone to listen.

On a brighter note, I’d like to introduce Pixel Journal’s 2019-2020 Editorial Board. The editors selected this year are so enthusiastic and dedicated, and I’m honored to be working with them. If you’d like to read more about our editors, check out our Staff page!

Nicole Wu (‘20), Stories Editor: “I'm so excited to be a part of the Pixel Journal Editorial Board and can't wait to capture moments from the OHS culture. I hope to shine a spotlight on all the amazing people who make up the community by sharing the stories of their dreams, challenges, and triumphs.”

Pooja Kalyan (‘21), Stories Editor: “As a Stories editor for the Pixel Journal, I hope to share the incredible stories of Stanford OHS students, not only highlighting their accomplishments but also the diverse (and oftentimes hidden) talents that we have in the OHS community.”

Paige Yeung (‘21), Culture Editor: “I am hoping for the Pixel Journal to be a place where the uniqueness of OHS and its community can be exemplified, and as culture editor this year, I look forward to seeking out and sharing different perspectives on various aspects of the OHS experience.”

Rachel Hu (‘22), College Editor: “As the College editor, I hope to be able to expand the scope on colleges and provide useful information to assist OHS students on their college endeavors.”

Sophia Risin (‘23), Community Editor: “I’m excited to learn more about the unique community at OHS through my role as the Community Engagement editor.”

Please enjoy the articles from our latest two issues, covering reflections on the Rome Trip; a survey OHS student study habits; and 20 Questions interviews with Aditi Talati, Grace Josephson, and Claire Wang!

Cheers,

Hannah
