Letter from the Editor

Dear Reader,

Fall is personally my favorite season! I thoroughly enjoy the blushing autumn colors, the warm invitation of thick hoodies and sweatpants, the sweetness of sweet potato pies, and the crisp of the leaves crunching beneath your feet on the sidewalk. However, as the leaves begin to fall, it is imperative that we stay connected more than ever this season.

This season most importantly is about family, connection, and building bonds. As midterms consumed our energy and early action deadlines just passed for seniors, I understand how tempting it is to start skipping the usual family dinner, ghosting your peers, and isolating yourself. However, autumn is the perfect time to strengthen bonds and become more present to the people we love around us. Although sometimes we can understandably be stressed, remind yourself what makes this season special to you. Take a step back, relax a bit, and enjoy the season! Go out to the cider mill with that friend you haven’t seen in a while, buy that pumpkin spice latte on a cafe date, and look forward to your uncle’s amazing stuffing for the Thanksgiving dinner coming in the following weeks. This season is a special one, so let’s take advantage of it.

In this issue, we are spotlighting some wonderful individuals, including a Stories Spotlight on Christine Sinn ‘23 and her company Scoliobend as well as a Board of Arts Spotlight on Charlotte Own ‘25 and her artistic inspirations! We also get a look into the amazing Latin and French Club at OHS. Furthermore, we’re checking in with our students, including our hard-working seniors for a College Apps Check-In and student mental health for the Mental Health Support Column. Lastly, we’re recapping the end of the spooky season with a haunting history of Halloween and a feature on OHS’ very own Spooky Circle! Get some hot tea, go outside, watch the beautiful leaves as they begin to fall, and enjoy this issue while listening to our November fall-themed playlist!

Yours,

Rachel
