Letter from the Editor

Dear Reader,

I am honored and thrilled to have been selected as the Editor-in-Chief for the 2024-2025 school year! I have exuberant enthusiasm and bright prospects for the Journal.

First and foremost, I extend my gratitude to April Wen and Sterling Davies for their lively leadership this past year. Their guidance and support will be missed as they begin their college journey.

The Pixel Journal was founded in 2016 and is approaching its decennial. Since then, it has grown to become the hub of the OHS community; acting as the updated school diary, logging and spotlighting the splendid students, instructors, families, events, and clubs.

As a student who has been with SOHS since 7th grade, it is bittersweet to think that this next year will be my last. My experiences as a student in class, clubs, and social events–whether it be spontaneous Skype calls or the bustling breakout rooms to answer reading questions that trail off into tangential exchanges about each others’ daily routines–have been infinitely impactful. Nevertheless, I am excited to continue learning and connecting with the SOHS community and be impressed by the exceptional talents, perspectives, and experiences that we celebrate and share.

My time at the Journal as a reader, contributor, and editor has helped capture these unique backgrounds, learnings, and experiences that our OHS community treasures so much. And I am so grateful to have the opportunity to lead the Journal and continue this tradition.

As we move forward, I am excited to lead the Journal in its mission of sharing inspiring stories and fostering a sense of community across countries, seas, and continents and help connect single-course, part-time, and full-time students. As grand of a task as this seems, I know that the passionate writers, students, and community of SOHS can bridge these gaps, address important issues, and celebrate our special achievements.

Let’s stay connected, take care of one another, and return refreshed for the new school year in the fall.

Wishing you a wonderful summer ahead,

Sincerely,

Arielle
