A Trip to the Equator: OHS Galapagos Trip

“Are you showering first or am I?” 

This summer, on one of the Student Travel summer trips, a select few OHS high schoolers traveled to South America to visit the birthplace of Darwin’s theory of evolution: the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador! Led by the organization Ecology Project International (EPI), 12 students and OHS instructors Dr. Kristina Vetter and Ms. Marie Hamaoui embarked on a nine-day-long expedition to learn about the ins and outs of islands.

Spring Break 2023: YellOHStone Trip

This year, 12 students, Dr. Vetter, and Middle School Counselor Kellye Smith took their Spring Break to join the Ecology Project International (EPI) on their trip to Yellowstone National Park to observe the various wildlife, talk with different professors and scientists, interact with science hands-on, and explore one of the most visited national parks in the United States!

Spring Break 2023: New Orleans Trip

This spring break, OHS hosted a trip to New Orleans, thus continuing the tradition that began in 2019. The trip was composed of 12 OHSers from middle school, aged 11 to 14 years old, as well as three chaperones: Dr. Banks, Mr. Bennette, and Elitsa Somleva, the Academic Expeditions Tour Coordinator. Combining their passions for the history of New Orleans, Dr. Banks and Mr. Bennette helped provide students with a unique glimpse into the history of slavery that extended beyond the text in a book.

February NorCal Meetups

In the past few weeks, the NorCal OHS community has been hectic with frequent meetups. This includes the Writing Alliance’s inaugural meetup, as well as a meetup at Red Door Escape Room. These two back-to-back events provided OHSers based in NorCal with a great opportunity to connect with the peers they usually see online.

Pixel Festival 2023 Wrap Up

Pixel Festival, one of the most awaited events at Stanford OHS, happened this month on January 14th. Students, teachers, and parents alike all look forward to this day, as it gives a chance to catch up with familiar faces and meet new people as well through a variety of activities that took place all day long. Located on the Stanford campus, there was always an event to attend and enjoy.

Homecoming 2022 Recap

In addition to numerous other in-person events, Homecoming has become something that OHS students look forward to for socializing with their peers. It serves as a great opportunity for OHSers to have fun before their Thanksgiving break; students flew in from a broad spectrum of locations to meet up for fun events and dances.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at OHS

From September 15th to October 15th, Americans recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month. This isn’t exactly a time to party, but a month for Americans to learn about and highlight the efforts and cultures of American citizens with ancestors from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, or South America. The ways that people make the most of Hispanic Heritage Month include researching about the impact and history of Hispanic culture, icons, businesses, and traditions. The students and faculty of Stanford OHS are among the many people who are celebrating Hispanic heritage this month.
